
The Renal Society of Australasia, Kidney Health New Zealand, and the New Zealand and Australia Society of Renal Dialysis Practice Inc. have released a joint position statement, 'Measuring Dialysis Patient Acuity for Patient & Staff Safety' (June 2025).
Developed by the RSA Workforce Taskforce, the statement emphasises the need for objective, evidence-based methods to assess patient care needs during haemodialysis. Accurately measuring acuity ensures appropriate staffing levels, enhances patient outcomes, and supports workforce sustainability. This position reflects a shared commitment to advancing kidney care and will be reviewed biennially, with the next review scheduled for June 2027.
